Not done by a long shot

I find myself engaging in lengthy conversations over email. One sided lengthy conversations. My partners in these conversations sometimes just don't get what I'm trying to say. Apparently, I've forgotten what blogging is all about.

There are lots of times when what I want to say is longer than a standard Twitter or Facebook post. And, what I want to say is not directed at one person. Isn't that kind of communication what blogs were all about. Let's see if I can't remember to let lose here on topics that are worth more than a paragraph, that don't have any bearing on any one particular individual.

Here's a glimpse into some of the topics that have been swimming around in the flotsam:

- my Kindle
- redecorating as emotional catharsis
- why I need to be single
- will I have an empty nest & the corresponding syndrome
- television addiction versus reading desires
- I love my new bed
- Is a FWB relationship really what I need right now? (I think so.)
- Do I know how to have a plan-free weekend?

Thinking of an Island

I'm sure many of my friends would love to get away to an Island, somewhere warm, about now. I too am dreaming of an Island vacation. However my Island is not warm right now. I can hardly wait for Star Island to release the Summer schedule and registration information.

Good advice, not resolutions

The following is from the September 2010 issue of Whole Living magazine:

  1. You body already knows how to heal itself; you just have to get out of its way
  2. Go ahead, vent a little. Think of it as detox for the soul.
  3. Good posture isn't about rigidity, but fluidity.
  4. When you can appreciate being alone, you're rarely lonely.
  5. Clutter is the byproduct of indecision. Make sure everything in your space is there because you choose to keep it.
  6. You may not be in school any more, but there's always more to learn.
  7. True sufficiency doesn't mean having plenty; it means having enough.
  8. Pay attention to how you walk. Ask yourself what you're rushing toward or away from.
  9. Transform anxiety into excitement; focus not on the fear of what lies ahead but the possibilities you might create.
  10. Lead with your heart, not your ego.

I'm going to post this as a note on FB too, since more of my friends hang out there then here. :)

The last day

I have appreciated the opportunity this past month to reflect on the things that I am grateful for. Today, I must admit that November is nearly done.

I have learned quite a bit about myself this month. There is a lot to be grateful for. I plan on coming back to this month's postings when life starts to drag me down. I may need these reminders from time to time that life doesn't totally suck.

Every day is full of little joys and little annoyances. Some days bring big joys or big annoyances. If it was all of one, you wouldn't appreciate or recognize the other.

I contributed to an insightful bit of banter today that has little to do with 'gratitude' other than I was grateful to have participated:

"Common sense is over rated and over stated."

Count your blessings that you are beyond common!

A good morning

It's Monday. My teen is not a morning person. He couldn't figure out how to use the new shower knob (probably because it actually worked correctly, unlike the one that it replaced).

However, he did everything he was supposed to do this morning AND put up the new holiday tree too.

It's the little things that make a day bearable.
