What did I want to be when I grew up?

That's the prompt for today's NaBloPoMo.

At first I couldn't remember. But then I recalled all those floor plans I drew on graph paper. From about fifth grade through high school. I think I wanted to be an architect or an interior designer. Somehow in high school I forgot all about that. I got interested in science and technology and decided that I wanted to be an engineer. All the while, I was reading history books for fun.

So, what did I graduate with a degree in? History! Highly employable. That's why I went to graduate school. I majored in Information Studies (which was a cross between Librarianship and Computers). I worked in libraries for a while doing computers. I soon figured out that doing computers paid more than being a librarian. Sometimes, I miss the librarian stuff. Much less stress.

Give me another chance?

I haven't posted to my blog since May 1st! There's a lot I could say in my defense. Work and personal life have been extremely stressful. And, considering the nature of my work and the nature of the personal life stress, I couldn't just openly blog about those situations.

However, NaBloPoMo has inspired me. I get an email from them at the end of each month, challenging me to get back into blogging in the upcoming month. They even give you daily prompts to help get you going.

In June, I'm spending a week on Star Island again. This time I'm going to Star Arts Week, and I plan on participating in the writing workshop. I'm also going to take my camera, but I decided that I'd benefit more by focusing on my writing.

So, I'm really going to try to write in my blog in June. Probably not every day like NaBloPoMo wants me to, but definitely a few times every week. Crossing my fingers that I can do this.

Is it November already?

Is it that time of year again? NaBloPoMo I didn't commit this year. Maybe I'll do it anyway.

All quiet on the blogsphere front

Now that NaBloPoMo is over, many a blog has gone silent. It's not surprising. Committing to posting everyday for 30 days is hard work, even if some posts are just "I know this is a lame post". It was still a commitment to say something, anything, every day.

All of us had days where we were exhausted from our lives, where we couldn't even think of dragging ourselves to the computer, much less actually stringing a few coherent words together for the blogsphere.

So, allow me to applaud everyone who kept their commitment every day, even if some days ' posts were not earth shattering. Life is like that. Many days are unremarkable. But, each day we get up and persevere.

...every day, I don't write the book

While Elvis Costello really has very little to do with this post, the refrain from that song seemed appropriate. Last week, I added the little badge to the right that said that I planned on participating in National Blog Posting Month. This summer I was doing pretty well at posting every day. Since school started back up, I've been falling down on the job.

Well, I committed to posting every day in November for NaBloPoMo. However, I had planned to really get back with the program a few days ago. But, I missed yesterday. I have a good excuse...

OK. Why do I suddenly feel like Juan Epstein from "Welcome Back, Kotter"? "Mr Kotter, I got a note!"

See, I was really very ill all day yesterday and part of today, which really threw a monkey wrench in my three day weekend. I managed to get my homework done. Just. But, I didn't leave the house yesterday. I barely left the bed. And, all I had to eat was a handful of pretzels and half a bowl of room-temperature ramen. Yum.

Maybe at the bottom of my illness was the pathetic performance Saturday night of our Manchester Monarchs. We had such high hopes for the game. Last year, the boys won the Atlantic Conference of the AHL. Saturday night, they looked pretty sad against the Providence Bruins. But, it wasn't too surprising. Nearly our entire roster had changed. Virtually every player was an AHL rookie. I think that last year's team did so well, that most of them got scarfed up by NHL teams this year. Good for those guys! Sad for us.

So, any way, back to 'Every day, every day, every day, I write the book'. I am recommitted to posting. A handful of my blog friends have signed up for the November commitment. Heck, a few of them even post every day now. Some, ahem, should sign up so that they post more than once a week. You know who you are.
